This dissertation deals with the internal constrictions of the intestine. It was awarded with a gold medal by the Imperial Academy of Medicine and won the Portal Prize competition.
Ernest Besnier (1821-1909) is a French doctor and dermatologist. He found the first histological research laboratory at the Saint-Louis hospital and he is recognized for his research in dermatology in France and abroad.
He became a member of the Academy of Medicine in 1881 and gave his name to the disease Besnier-Boeck-Schaumann or "lupus pernio" (it is today called "sarcoidosis".).
